I was only here three out of the five days this week, making it hard to know what we learned this week. But I am going to focus on the senior project. To define the work done on the senior project, I would use the word stressful. We basically just worked on the senior project and worked out the logistics of everything. Malloree, Kameron, and I have put a lot of time and effort into each part of the project in hopes everything going as smoothly as possible. The project has mostly gone smoothly, minus some bumps in the road. We had some difficulty with out project proposal and our research plan. While working on this project, we made a lot of effort in working well as a group. Each of us have put in a lot of time and work into the project to make sure the message of what we’re doing is well received. It has taken a lot of work to achieve our goal of a well organized and finished project. We have needed assistance to know what it is that we are missing points from, and knowing what it is that we are supposed to be doing. We have gone to west once so far for our senior project. It was pretty fun and exciting. We personally believe that our project is approximately 75% done. We have worked very hard to reach this point and to be satisfied with what we have done so far. We know that we have things to still do before we are completely done, but we also know that it will be easy for us to reach that point.

Throughout the last two weeks, we have worked on project production and identity. We learned a lot on how identity relates to leadership and society. Mainly, I enjoyed the project despite not understanding what it was that we were really doing until the week we presented the project. I feel that it could’ve been better explained as to what exactly the project was. My entire group was confused as to what we were doing and how we were supposed to execute the project. While doing the project we learned a lot about leadership, and I believe that is because leadership will some how relate to our senior project. During the project we read several different readings by Sherman Alexie and tried to relate them to our big question. We decided to be more meticulous about the slide that we presented rather than worrying on what the exact words that we would be saying. For instance, we left out graphics to focus on our slide rather than drawing attention to one specific area. We all felt that we worked hard to achieve what it was that we created. We also began to talk about our senior projects and what it might be. My group decided on relating our volunteering aspect of the project to marching band, which is something we all feel passionately about. We talked a lot about volunteering and leadership. Something I’ve noticed about this class is that leadership seems to be a main theme. All of the projects we have focused on have had something to do with leadership. This week in 12B we focused a lot on a project. A mysterious project that kind of confuses me. I'm not confused as to how to work on a project. I am more confused as to what the project is. We did a lot of projects that related to individuality. One of which was the Indian Education by Sherman Alexie. We read the story and tried to relate it to our big question in some way shape or form. The big question my group is working on is How does a leader impact the image of society? We found it slightly difficult, yet easy to relate the text to our question. WIth words like confident and censorship, and phrases like freedom of expression, it was easy to find ways to relate to our question. The difficult part was finding those words. Another identity in context thing we worked on was reading short stories and finding traited within them that related back to our big question. The hardest part about that was actually figuring out what the sheet was looking for. A lot of the traits I saw in the short story related only to being a leader, making the leadership role easy to define. One thing I particularly enjoy about this class is the creative writing. It's like a place for me to get out my feelings for the day. Whether they relate to the given topic or not doesn't seem to bother me much. I just like being able to write whatever is on my mind. Each topic we are given peaks my interest in one way or another, making it easy for me to find something to relate to. Each time we write an entry in our creative writing diary, I have a freeing feeling take over me and all the stressful things from the day washes away. Its my way of copping with the stress of school and grades and home life. We have learned a lot about identity this week. It was a lot like last week when we focused on who we are as people. The identity lesson over identity vs power was interesting. We wrote down different things that reminded us of identity then we wrote down words that reminded us about power. Then we took those words and created sentences. In reference to that lesson, it was the questions that caught my attention. Each question was unique and interesting in its own retrospect. The teaching style that Schoenborn presents with is laidback yet up beat at the same time, making lesson plans about things as simple as identity interesting. Another thing that I found highly interesting was the poems, on monday specifically. Shane Koyczan is one of my favorite poets, and shoulders was an excellent start to the week. Something about starting with poetry catches my attention to this class. It gives the whole class a laidback feel when in reality we are doing lots of things for our learning experience. The poetry and creative writing sections were extremely fun to participate in. The creative writes really helped my brain relax and have fun even though I was participating in school work. Normally creative writing bored me because there is always a prompt. But being able to choose anything. All in all, I actually really enjoy this class so far. There is a lot to do on a day to day basis, but that keeps the class exciting. Some teachers plan out days with large amounts of independent work time, which just leaves me bored. I like the fast passed nature that schoenborn teaches with. This was my first week in a class with Mr. Schoenborn. Sadly, he wasn't here to assist me with my questions and troubles. HIm not being there, made learning difficult, like breaking a chain. The one day he was here, I wasn't. But that does not mean I didn't learn anything. First and foremost, I learned that poetry is a front runner in how I could learn this trimester. To me, the main idea we focused on learning this week was about us. It didn't necessarily seem to be about learning a leadership lesson or the theme of a required book, it was focused almost entirely on who we are as readers, writers, and ultimately people. The main thing that we did to learn more about us as people, was write a few paragraphs on who we are as readers and writers, To learn about who we are as people, we wrote a poem based off of Where I'm from by George Ella Lyon. I highly enjoyed writing my own version of this incredibly deep and insightful poem. I learned that I enjoy writing poems more than I had originally anticipated. Normally, I only write poetry for myself without thought or care as if anyone ever reads it. I am excited for this class to actually begin. I'm mostly excited for time to learn the difference in my english class last trimester and this one. Last trimester, I wasn't challenged as a reader, writer, or student. I flew through that class without much thought as to what I was doing because I already knew what to do. My hopes for this class is to actually be challenged in whatever it is that I am doing. I have heard this class is more difficult, which is why I switched into it in the first place. My main and only question for this class, is will it challenge me? |
